Martha L. "Markie" Windell, 89, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 after a brief illness.
She was the daughter of Charlie Herbert and Louise Estelle Epps Windell. Born and raised at the dam in Rock Hill, later known as the Wylie Station, she graduated from Winthrop Training School and attended Winthrop College. After 35 years of service, she retired from Ford Motor Co. District Sales office and was a charter member of Oakland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James H. Windell in 1947 and Alfred M. "Al" Windell in 1983. Survivors include four nephews and one niece; Butch Windell and wife Gail (Amy Windell, Erin Williams), Jimmy Windell and wife Dr. Nan Mask (Lex and Annslee Windell), Jane W. Rawls and husband Marty (Allison Timmons and Rebecca Rawls), all of Rock Hill, Charlie Windell and wife Jo (Jacob) of Rotorua, New Zealand, and Rick Windell of Smyrna, GA.; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Windell of Rock Hill.
A graveside service will be held Friday, June 22, at 3:30 pm, at Flint Hill Baptist Church, Ft. Mill, SC., with Rev. Bob Shrum officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Polly's Purse, Oakland Baptist Church, 1067 Oakland Ave, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
