Mary was born February 6, 1927 in Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania to the late Michael and Elizabeth Ulichnie. She was the oldest of five siblings. She married the late Andrew Bacik of Cleveland, Ohio in 1946. They were married 71 years. Mary and Andrew raised six children from their Tonsing Drive address in Garfield Heights, Ohio eventually moving to Boardman, Ohio for Andrew’s work. Mary was employed by The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County where she served as the district’s clerical supervisor. Mary was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Boardman as a Eucharistic Minister, involved with the RCIA program and prided herself of her meticulous care of the Mass purificators. After retirement, Andrew and Mary moved to Poland, Ohio and eventually to Rock Hill, South Carolina to live with daughter Margaret’s family. Mary is survived by her children: Deacon Dale Bacik (Jennifer) of Tampa, Florida, James Bacik (Debbie) of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Lorraine Atwood (Tom) of St. Louis, MO, Mary Van Driel (Tom) of Sarasota, FL, Margaret Blackann (Paul) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Alice Tomasko (Tom) of Houston, TX. In her 90s, Mary underwent successful double knee replacement surgery and travelled extensively to visit family and friends throughout the United States and Canada. Mary held tightly to her acquired friendships throughout life and was known to mail hundreds of Christmas card and letters each year. Among her final words to her family was the reminder for all of her children and grandchildren to love one another and to care for each other. Mary was an avid reader. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing Scrabble, and flower gardening. She will be greatly missed.
