Mrs. Mary Lena Adams Collier, of Charlotte, formerly of Toccoa, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 15, 2024, following a period of declining health.
Lena was born on May 10, 1937 in the Madison community of Oconee County, SC, to the late Isaac and Ida Stone Adams. Raised on the family farm, she learned the value of hard work and family at an early age. After graduating from Cleveland High School, she remained home until her mother recovered from cancer. She went on to work for Wright Manufacturing, where she met and married Fletcher in 1959. Years later she was employed at Milliken.
After the family moved to Charlotte in 1976, Lena devoted her time to being a full-time wife and mother, tirelessly nurturing her family in large and small ways. Naturally creative she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She loved gardening and her flowers were well-known and admired by her neighbors.
In addition to her parents, and her husband of 61 years, she was preceded in death by brothers; Glen Adams, Kenneth Adams, Carl Adams, Jimmy Adams, sisters; Cleo Butts and Geneva Moss.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Ivan Collier of Charlotte, daughter; Jane Whitely and son-in-law Tom of Charlotte, brother Billy Adams and sister-in-law Brenda of Westminster, SC, sisters-in-law; Melba McCurry and Gail Collier of Toccoa, GA, sister-in-law; Olivia Adams of Westminster, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
