Fort Mill, SC – Mrs. Mary Frances Patterson Huggins, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The family will receive friends at 4:00 pm Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Whitesell Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 pm with the Rev. Barry Yates officiating. The family will also receive friends and family at the home of her son, Wesley Huggins.
A native of York County, SC Mrs. Huggins was a daughter of the late William Wesley Patterson, Jr. and Sarah Osilene Whiteside Patterson. Mary Frances was a 1955 graduate of Indian Land High School. While in school she was a Beta Club Member and played basketball for Indian Land High School for 5 years. She was the church secretary at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Indian Land while James P. Blackwelder was the pastor. After graduating from High School she worked for Belk’s Department Store in downtown Charlotte, NC. She then went to work for Cone Mills in Pineville, NC where she worked for 35 years as a supervisor in the cloth room. She then worked for 10 years for Cigna Insurance.
In 1956 she married Bill Huggins and was married to him for 65 years until his death in 2021. She enjoyed family so much with her brothers and sister having family gatherings. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always loved doing crossword puzzles, playing Bingo, and watching sports on T.V. She also enjoyed reading the Bible and watching Dr. Charles Stanley. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and later became a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She will be remembered as a Christian Lady.
Mary Frances is survived by her three children, Harley W. Huggins (Sherri), Lynn Huggins Wilson, and Wesley Huggins (Cathy); three brothers, Delano Patterson (Dixie), Bob Patterson (Joy), and Don Patterson (Ruth); a sister, Brenda Davis (Ray); 7 grandchildren, Jeremy Huggins (Taryn), Keaton Huggins, Theo Huggins, Taryn Crow, Wesley Crow, Logan Culp (Gray) and Lex Starnes; and 5 great-grandchildren, Alexis Huggins, Sebastian Shaw, Samuel Shaw, Amelia Crow, and Lawson Culp; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Bill” Harley Huggins, Jr.; a brother, Tommy “T.C” Patterson; a sister, Willene Patterson Boatright and a son-in-law, George Wilson.
