Mary Ellen Steele

Mary Ellen Moon Steele, 82, of 2040 Somerdale Road, passed away Monday, December 21, 2009 at Magnolia Manor. A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Steele was born December 19, 1927 a daughter of the late Guy and Willie Beckham Moon. She was a retired bookkeeper, having worked for Key Supply and Mackey Vending in Rock Hill. Mrs. Steele directed choirs at numerous churches that her husband pastored. She along with her husband directed the Jaycee Boys Home from 1969 to 1972 and from 1980 to 1983 as well as the Lancaster Boys and Girls Home. Mrs. Steele was currently a member of Antioch United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her brother Paul Thomas Moon. Surviving are her husband of 62 years Reverend Fant Steele, Jr.; a daughter Lin Steele of Rock Hill; a son Fant Steele, III and his wife Lorraine Campbell Steele of Rochester, Minn.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Steele will be held Sunday at 2:30pm at Antioch United Methodist Church with Rev. Donna Lollis with visitation to follow in the fellowship hall and other times at the home of her daughter 722 E Black Street. Burial will be private.
