Mary Virginia Underwood passed away in her home in Fort Mill, South Carolina on March 31, 2022.
She was born in Grandview Texas on December 29, 1931. As a child she was known by many as “June”. In later life, as a grandmother, she was known as “Nana Boo”. While she always considered herself a Texan, she spent 21 years living in Southern California and worked at one of Santa Monica’s most well-known restaurants famous for its prime rib and its clientele of Hollywood stars. Mary married and had three children while in California. She eventually returned to Texas and settled in Lake Jackson with her children. She obtained her real-estate license and worked for many years in Brazoria and Galveston County, retiring in 2003 at the age of 72. She lived the last eleven years of her life in Fort Mill, South Carolina near one of her daughters and two grandsons.
Mary is survived by her three children- Sharon D’Onofrio, Linda D’Onofrio, and Michael D’Onofrio, 5 grandsons, her siblings Martha Johnson and Bob Wiggs, and multiple generations of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mary will be held in Fort Mill followed by a family gathering in Lake Jackson Texas later this month.
