Max Leon Stalcup, Sr., 70, of Rock Hill, S.C., passed away Saturday morning, June 9, 2012. Max was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S Recovery during the Cuban Crisis. Originally from Worthington, Ind., he was a longtime resident of Rock Hill. Max worked as a maintenance manager for Star Paper Tube, CarauStar, retiring in 2007 after 36 years with the company. He enjoyed spending his time tinkering with mechanical projects, such as rebuilding a 1960 Czechoslavakian Jawa motorcycle. He also took great pride in his garden. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Olivia Duncan Stalcup; his children, Leona Perry (Brandy), Bonnie Stalcup, Renee Stalcup (Brad), Max Leon Stalcup, Jr. and Scottie Marsengill (Chris); his grandchildren, Devin Perry, Rebecca Perry, Tyler Marsengill, Colton Perry and Christopher Marsengill; his sister Joanna Newsom and brother Kenny Stalcup; and his beloved cat, Prissy. He is preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Jean Stalcup, and his father, Leo Stalcup. A memorial gathering will be held at the Stalcup home, 3309 Stalcup Road, Rock Hill, on Friday, June 15, 2012, at 6 p.m. Friends and family are welcome.
