York - Mr. Melvin Monroe Cook, 75, died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Gloryland Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the New Vision Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Cook was a son of the late Charles Monroe Cook and Mary Morris Cook. Mr. Cook was a retired construction worker who loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He loved sitting on the porch and enjoying nature. He was a member of New Vision Freewill Baptist Church and attended Gloryland Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed listening to gospel music.
Surviving are his wife, Gennive Williams Cook; a son, Charles Keith Cook; five daughters, Cindy Cook Upchurch (Tommy), Janice Cook Lindsay (David), Donna Cook, Renae Cook Stewart (Bo), and Julie Cook Commander (Jeffrey); a brother, Charles Allen Cook (Ruby); a sister, Loretta Cook Strickland (EL); 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin "Sonny" Monroe Cook, Jr, a sister, Sherry Cameron and a brother, Gene Cook.
The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday, at Whitesell Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to New Vision Freewill Baptist Church or Gloryland Freewill Baptist Church.
