Merrill Lyman Pierce, Sr

Merrill Lyman Pierce, Sr. died peacefully in his sleep February 9, 2017. He was born August 25, 1924 in Barrington, R.I. to Leon and Sadie Friars Pierce. He was in the Army Air Corp stationed in Houston, TX when he met the love of his life Willa Lyons. They had been married for seventy years. He is survived by Willa and their three children, Cheryl Pierce Moneyhun, Merrill Lyman Pierce, Jr. and Paula Pierce Moore and her husband Todd. He was grandfather to 8 grandchildren, Polly Moneyhun Koczalka and her husband Frank, Amanda Moneyhun Fisher and her husband Brannon, Alison Rae Pierce, Meghan Elizabeth Pierce, Shelby Ellen Langdon Moore, Leanna Alyce Pierce Moore, Nicholas Walter Todd Moore and Taylor Jane Pierce. Great-grandfather to Lindsey and April Koczalka and Waverly and Layla Fisher, and many nieces and nephews and good friends. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren spending as much time as he could with them and passing on his great store of knowledge, love and patience to them all. Always happy, always smiling. He was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church before moving to the Carolinas to be near family, leaving Baton Rouge after 57 years. He was a mason, a member of the Garden Oaks Lodge in Houston, TX.

Preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Sadie Pierce, brothers Leon and Willard and a sister Sally, and son-in-law Gary Moneyhun.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
