Michael James Daniello

Lancaster, SC

Michael James Daniello, a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 1st, 2023 in Pineville, North Carolina.  He was the son of the late James Joseph and Emilie Helen (Wojciechowski) Daniello.  Mike grew up in Chicago, Illinois.  He was born on July 25th, 1952 and attended Wells High School.  He was a resident of Lancaster, South Carolina where he resided with his loving wife, Sandy. He also belonged to the American Legion Post 34 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He loved playing bingo, going to the movies, camping and spending time with family and friends. Mike knew no stranger and his wonderful sense of humor lit up every room.

At the age of 17, Mike enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  He valued his service highly and attained the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant.  Mike served during the Vietnam War.  His tours of duty included: Camp Pendleton, California; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; Okinawa, Japan; Norfolk, Virginia; and Seoul, South Korea.  He participated in Operation Frequent Wind in Saigon, South Vietnam as well as Operation Eagle Pull in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Mike's military decorations included: The Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Achievement Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Navy Unit Commendation; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with 1 star; Humanitarian Service Medal with Bronze 2; Good Conduct Medal with 5 stars; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 2 stars; 4 Letters of Appreciation; Overseas Ribbon; Rifle Sharpshooter Badge; Pistol Expert Badge; and the National Defense Service Medal with 1 star. He retired after 24 years of service in June 1993.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sandra (Shell) Daniello; his children, Nicholas and Christopher (Ashley) Daniello; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Camden and Cole; his brother Anthony (Diane) Daniello; his sisters, Nancy Thomas and Sallie (Ronald) Willer; his uncle, Edward Daniello; and many loving nephews, nieces and friends.  Mike was a wonderful stepfather and was loved dearly by his stepchildren, Troy (Renee) Vincel, Keith Vincel and Marcie (Wayne) McClain as well as his step grandchildren, Jackson, Anna, John, James and Joshua.  He is preceded in death by his parents, James Joseph and Emilie Helen (Wojciechowski) Daniello.

His family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all of the nurses, doctors and special care teams at Atrium Health Pineville ICU.

A service honoring the life of Mike will be held on May 8th, 2023 at Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill, SC with visitation from 1-2pm and a funeral service at 2pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion Post 34 at 524 Heckle Blvd, Rock Hill, SC 29730.  Additionally, a Military Funeral Honors Ceremony will be held at Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.
