Mrs. Mildred Mae Bathrick Tomlin 89 passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, Rock Hill, SC. Mildred Mae Bathrick was the third of three children of Martin and Alpha Bathrick. At the age of three, her family moved to Cambridge, Nebraska, where she attended school, graduating High School in 1943. She married Bryce Dwayne Tomlin and they had two daughters, Linda Joan and Debra Sue. During Mildred's Junior year of High School, she was diagnosed with Polio. Hospital treatment was necessary and she spent several weeks in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was in this hospital that she met Bryce Tomlin, also there for Polio treatment. After Mildred graduated High School, she and Bryce moved to Spokane, Washington. They returned to Cambridge, NE in 1945 and were in the flood of 1947, losing everything they owned. They moved to Cozad, NE in 1956, her husband Bryce Tomlin died in 1991. Mildred later lived in California for two years after his passing and then moved to Rock Hill, SC with her daughter Linda Mayhill and son-in-law Harvey. After her daughters were grown she worked as a teacher in Cozad, NE. Mildred was also certified in CPR and worked as a volunteer with the Cozad Rescue Squad. Mildred was a mother to two daughters, Grandmother to four, and Great Grandmother six times. Her life has spanned fifteen United States Presidents, six wars and several conflicts. She has experienced the passing of rail travel, and the development of airplane travel which can take us anywhere in the world in less than a day. Mildred loved to fly, and she also enjoyed roller coasters. She has experienced the telephone movement from ringing central and asking for the Operator, to Cell phones. When she moved to Rock Hill, it was with her daughter and son-in-law, Lin and Harvey Mayhill. Two years later, her other daughter, Debra and husband Lawrence "Butch" Sheets moved to Rock Hill. One of her grandchildren already lived in Fort Mill, SC, and within a two year period of her moving here, all the rest of her descendants had moved within a short distance of Rock Hill. Mildred resided in the Mayhill guest house until early 2012, when she moved to Harbor Chase, an assisted living facility. She lived an independent life and enjoyed keeping up with current events, good investments, and also reading the Sunday Funny Papers. Mildred had a keen sense of humor and always gave good hugs. She lived the life of a pioneer, struggled through the great depression, saw people go to war who never returned, watched families grow and then move away. She lived a good life because she lived a simple life without excess or bad habits. Her love for family and friends and being fair to all were her finest attributes.
