Lancaster, SC – Mrs. Nancy Carolyn Gordon, 73, died Saturday, March 18, 2023, at MUSC Lancaster.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, March 25, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lancaster Branch, 1416 West Meeting Street, Lancaster, SC 29720.
A native of Brooklyn, NY Mrs. Gordon was a daughter of the late Max (NMN) Gordon and Ora Jane Taylor Gordon. She attended Sunset Park Elementary School in Brooklyn from Kindergarten through 6th grade. She then attended John J. Pershing Junior High School in Brooklyn from 7th to 8th grade. She and her sister, Maxine moved with their parents to Spindale NC when her dad retired. While living there she graduated from RS Central High School. After graduating from high school, she attended Isothermal Community College in the evenings while working at Spindale Saving & Loan. In March of 1976 she joined the United States Air Force. She did her basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. She also received Technical Training Biloxi MS for eight and a half months. He first assignment was at Edwards AFG in the Mojave Desert 1977-1980. She was also stationed in Texas, California, and Ahlhorn, Germany. She became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in November of 1981. She completed her military service and returned to civilian life in 1986. She received her Temple Endowment in the Atlanta Temple in 1991. After her military career she entered the world of ancillary health care, beginning with medical transcription and moving up to medical coding at Springs Memorial Hospital which became MUSC Lancaster in 1999. She entered retirement from the medical field in 2020. In November 2018 she was Sealed to Parents in the Columbia Temple.
Surviving are her daughter, Megan Weikle and her husband, David; a sister, Maxine Yelton; brother-in-law, Michael Yelton; a grandson, Samuel Weikle; a niece Amy Yelton Lee and her husband, Shawn Lee; and their three sons, Jacob, Logan, and Jackson. She was preceded in death by her pets Sophie the Wondercat, Swirl, Sugar, Spice, Marmalade, PJ and Joe Will. I am sure the reunion at the feline section of the Rainbow Bridge was glorious!
