Nancy Lee Blackwell Peet, master of puns, poet, loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, died on April 7, 2022, at age 69. Nancy was born in Dayton Ohio, on February 9th, 1953, the second of three children to the late Frank and Virginia Blackwell.
As the daughter of an Air Force Colonel, she moved to Evreux, France, and then to California, before settling back in Dayton in 1963. Nancy excelled in school and was rewarded for her hard work with admission to the National Honor Society. In 1971 she graduated from high school, said goodbye to Dayton, and began her own life journey, a journey that would take her to Pennsylvania, Sicily, New York, Texas, and North Carolina.
Nancy attended college to study English at Lock Haven University. It was there where she met her future husband, and made many lifelong friends. She married Steve Peet in 1978, in a beautiful self written ceremony in Painted Post, NY. They lived for a time in central Pennsylvania and southern New York before moving to Texas in 1982, where they had a son, Byron Peet, in August 1983. They eventually made their way to Charlotte, NC in 1992, and there they remained.
She cherished her family above all else, and believed it her most important duty to provide unconditional love to her family, and any friends lucky enough to get to know her. Please know this… if she ever told you that she loved you, she meant it! She held too many titles in this life to list here in full. Among them are wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher, poet, vivid dreamer and musician. Regardless of relation, Nancy made a positive impact on everyone privileged to get to know her. Nancy loved children, and spent many years as a daycare teacher, before completing her career at Sanger Pediatrics. However, her proudest achievement was raising her son, Byron.
Nancy now joins her sister Susan, her beloved grandma Farley, and her mother and father, in heaven. Nancy was happiest when she was in the arms of her “sweetie”, Steve, and when her child and then grandchildren were treating her as a jungle gym. Nancy loved to laugh, and loved good jokes and stories. The family will host a celebration of life on Saturday, April 23rd, at 2:00 PM EST at Palmetto Funeral Home at 2049 Carolina Place Dr.
Nancy loved children and hated Cancer, it is her wish that instead of flowers, that you donate to St Judes Children's Hospital in her name at this link http://giftfunds.stjude.org/Nancy_Peet
In the meantime, her husband, Steve, asks that you tell a joke, spin a horrible pun, and give someone you love a hug and a kiss from her.
