Nora Ruth Speare Ashworth, 82, of 4016 Dye Road, passed away Saturday October 24, 2009 at Piedmont Medical Center. A native of Saltash, England, Mrs. Ashworth was born May 26, 1927 a daughter of the late William Thomas and Maria Louisa Speare. Mrs. Ashworth was a retired secretary from Smith Enterprises and a member of Heath Memorial United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ellis "Chuck" Ashworth, a son Alan Ashworth; a stepson Donald Ashworth; two brothers Bart and Arthur Ashworth and a sister Ruth McClure. Surviving are two sons Kenny Ashworth and wife Carolyn of Ft. Mill and Glen Ashworth and wife Beverly of Nashville, TN; a daughter Debra Hyland and husband Jim of Edgemoor, a stepson Ronald Ashworth and wife Frances of LaGrange, Ga; a brother Bill Speare of Selby Township, Yorkshire County, England; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Monday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ashworth will be held Tuesday at 1:00pm in the chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Reverend Glen Ashworth, Deacon Jim Hyland and Rev. Joanne Lockard-Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial park on Cherry Road. Pallbearers will be Vernon Wells, Tom Frye, Darrell Huckabee, Shawn Hopkins, James McCammon and Robert Alderfer.
