Norma Dean Chandler, age 94, formerly of Charleston, West Virginia, died peacefully on December 29, 2017 at home in Fort Mill, South Carolina, after a courageous struggle with cancer. Norma was born August 23, 1923, in McCorkle, West Virginia, the daughter of William Harrold and Stella Eskew and the youngest of 8 children. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charleston.
During World War II, Norma worked in various defense plants making tents for the Army, gun powder for the Army and cannons for the Navy. After the war, Norma married, had three children, divorced and brought up her children on her own. She worked for A & I Supply Company for 37 years. Norma retired and devoted the next 24 years to home health care. During the last 6 years, Norma made her home with her daughter Carol and son-in-law John Blessing. She was a member of the New Southern Women's Club and had a passion for family, friends, and meeting new people.
Norma was preceded in death by her beloved son, John (Teresa). She is survived by her two daughters; Carol (John Blessing) of Fort Mill and Valerie Meister of Sarasota Florida; daughter-in-law Teresa Chandler of Clover, SC. Grandchildren include Grandson John Meister and Great-Grandson Alex of Columbus, Ohio and Granddaughter Rebekha Bragg (Adam) and Great-Granddaughter Claire of Sarasota, Florida. Numerous loving nieces, nephews and extended family members mourn her passing. Norma was a devoted and loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. Her loss to our family is profound. .
A Memorial Service will be held at Palmetto Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on January 28, 2018 for her local family members, and many friends in the local community and the New Southern Women's Club.
A second Memorial Service will be announced later at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charleston, WV, where her ashes will be interred.
