Norman Thomas Kinzie

February 9, 1936 — August 13, 2022

Waxhaw, NC

Norman Thomas (Doc) Kinzie, 86 of Fort Mill, S.C. died Saturday August 13th, 2022. Mr. Kinzie passed away peacefully at home, in the company of family following an extended bout with cancer. Norman was born in Charlotte, N.C. on Feb. 9,1936 to the late Catherine and Theron Kinzie of Charlotte. Norman is survived by his loving wife, Carole Kinzie; his daughter, Cathy Kennedy; his son, John Kinzie; his grandson, Michael Kennedy; and his sister, Joan Wyche.

He graduated from Central High School in 1955 and attended Wake Forest College and later graduated from King's Business College. Doc lived his life to the fullest. Everyone loved his outgoing personality and genuine love for others. If he called you friend, you had a friend for life. When asked how he was doing, he would often reply, “If I were doing any better, I couldn't stand it." You didn’t need lawyers or written contracts to do business with Doc. Only a handshake was required. His life philosophy was simple: “Follow your inner voice that tells you what’s right and fair”.

His first wife Marianne was the love of his life for 51 years followed by his children Cathy and John and grandson, Michael. When Marianne passed away in 2011, he was devastated. Later he found his high school sweetheart, Carole and married her. Carole and Norman’s families became their priority.

Norman was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend to many people. He worked for Union National Bank for 18 years as Purchasing Agent. Afterward he became Vice President of Sales for N.C. & S.C. for Courier Journal Lithograph Company. He proposed having scenic pictures of North Carolina on personal checks. He later on, he bought three local pharmacies in Monroe. In retirement, his love of the outdoors sent him traveling to all 50 states, Nova Scotia, and five providences in Canada.

His greatest joys of life on the road were searching for new sights and adventures around every corner. He loved to garden and whistle "Yes, Jesus loves me" and "He Comes To the Garden Alone" as he worked. His neighbors will miss his yearly yield of prize-winning tomatoes.

He was a veteran member of the Oasis Temple Drum and Bugle Corp.  Where he served as Chaplin for over 15 years. Norman was an active member of the Williamson Chapel United Methodist Church in Mooresville and served in many leadership roles for over 25 years.
