We regret to announce the death of Patrick Kelly Lynch, aged 70, who passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024 in Fort Mill, South Carolina, after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
Patrick was a clinical engineer for over fifty years, beginning his career at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. He was a highly respected member of his profession and received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including, only a month before his death, the 2024 TechNation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He graduated from University of North Carolina – Charlotte and obtained a MBA from Kennesaw State University. During his career, Patrick traveled to many developing countries to bring and repair much needed medical equipment such as infant incubators and heart monitors. Patrick returned from several of these trips with unique, colorful tattoos which he loved to show off.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Patrick was a devoted family man who dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a beloved husband to Patricia Guilday Lynch and a devoted father to Christy Lynch (Wiley Bennett), Erin Josey (Jasen Nolff ) and Eva Lynch (Mario Jones). His family will cherish their memories of Patrick’s love for them and his willingness to do almost anything for each and all of them. They will especially remember his bear hugs, his sense of humor, his acceptance of others, his fearlessness, his horrible and scary driving, and his love for New Orleans.
Patrick and Patricia moved to Baxter Village in Fort Mill, South Carolina in 2008 and Patrick quickly became a respected, dearly loved member of the community. He served as president of the Baxter Trail Club and spent hundreds of hours on the trails building bridges, leading other volunteers and championing trail-related causes. He loved spending his afternoons at the Grapevine enjoying a cigar, a few PBR’s and entertaining everyone with hilarious stories and jokes.
Patrick was perhaps best known and loved for the passion he brought to everything he did, including Halloween decorations, traveling with Christy’s high school marching band. coaching Erin’s softball team, teaching Eva to drive, managing biomedical departments in several large hospitals, creating and serving new biomedical state and regional societies, serving as a volunteer for many non-profits, and being a well-loved member of the Baxter community. Patrick seemed happiest when he was helping a family member, friend, or even a complete stranger in need or in a pinch.
Patrick was the son of Sylvia Hogan Lynch and Lowell Lynch and grew up in Charlotte with his three brothers, John, Steven, and Mark and his sister, Sharon Lynch. Patrick is survived by his wife, Patricia; his mother, Sylvia Hogan Lynch; his three daughters; eight grandchildren, Nate, Hailee, Trevor, Iyanna, Lashay, Bryson, Alayah and Parker. Patrick is also survived by Diane Lynch, mother of Christy and Erin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Baxter Village - Village Hall, 3387 Richards Crossing, Fort Mill on Sunday, March 10 at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Charlotte Community ToolBank or the local charity of your choice.
Patrick will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and colleagues.
