Paul Belrose passed away on November 3, 2022, after a prolonged struggle with various medical issues which he fought bravely until the very end. Paul was born in Amityville, NY, to Edward and Irene Belrose and grew up as the eldest of three brothers: Jimmy, Jordan and Harry. After high school, he joined the Marines and ultimately received a commendation for serving as President Eisenhower’s helicopter crew chief. The saying “once a marine always a marine” certainly captured the enduring impact his time in the Marines had on all aspects of his life. After the service, Paul became a master mechanic. He married Susan Strollo Belrose and had two children, Julie and Keith.
As a father, he was dedicated to helping his children become their best selves by holding them to high expectations. He also enjoyed spending time with them building cool forts, taking them on walks in the woods, planting incredible gardens and introducing them to as many new experiences as possible. Honesty, courage, and strong character were always reinforced.
After his time as a master mechanic, Paul took a position with General Motors where he enjoyed a highly successful career that took the family to live in many different states with each promotion until he ultimately ended up in Tega Cay, SC. A few years after he landed in Tega Cay, Susan and Paul divorced. Several years later he found his lifelong partner, Lillian Lucas. His career took him all over the world including the Great Wall of China. Ultimately Paul became the Assistant General Service Manager for North and South Carolina. Paul was very fortunate to receive an excellent early retirement package from GM. This allowed him to pursue his great passion for the game of Golf.
Paul’s golfing began as a caddy for the Black Course at Bethpage State Park, Long Island, New York. He loved the game and later in life he was given the opportunity to represent his company in many golf events as well as charity games, Pro Ams and Member-Guests. When Lil was 46 years old, Paul taught her how to play golf. Golf became an important part of their lives and relationship. Paul and Lil loved playing golf together and enjoyed golf-related events together as well. Even after the game was over, they would spend time talking about the game, watching professional tournaments on TV, and rooting for their favorite pros.
Paul is survived by his lifelong partner, Lillian Lucas and her children Sherry [Lucas] McKinney (Leevon McKinney, Jr.) and Charles Lucas; Paul’s children Julie [Belrose] Biggerstaff (Harry Davidson) and Keith Belrose; 4 grandchildren (Jillian, Dale, Jessica and John Ross) and 4 great-grandchildren (Izen, Bellina, Juda and Rosie); also, his brothers Jordan Belrose and Harry Baranello; his sister-in-law, Carol Belrose (wife of the late Jimmy Belrose), and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 3rd at Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill, SC, with a memorial service immediately thereafter. Pastor Kent Massey will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Paul’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital are appreciated.
