Paul Yunevich, 84, of Sun City Carolina Lakes in South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly after complications from an elective hernia operation on June 4, 2023. Paul opted to do the surgery to enable him to continue enjoy golfing, his longtime passion, which was getting harder to do given the pain he was experiencing.
Paul was born on January 1, 1939 to Peter and Ann Yunevich in Chicago, Illinois and is survived by his sister, Arlene Jezierski.
He was married to Elizabeth Ann Yunevich for over 30 years and had two daughters, Lynn and Becky.
After retiring at the age of 56, Paul and Liz moved to Amelia Island, Florida and spent their summers at their log cabin up in Minocqua, Wisconsin. Retirement together was unfortunately short lived, as Liz died on January 4, 1999, at the age of 59, from cancer. Paul was so thankful for the retirement years he and Liz were able to share, the highlight of which was welcoming their first two grandchildren, Grace and Griffin Van Lear.
When Paul was ready to date again, he began a relationship with Phyllis (Penny) Klose. Paul and Penny enjoyed years of traveling the world, visiting with Paul's grandchildren, and enjoying time in Florida and Wisconsin. Although they parted ways after many years together, Paul and Penny maintained a wonderful friendship until Paul's untimely death.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Lynn Van Lear (Chris) and Becky Newbill (Andy) and grandchildren Grace, Griffin, Libby, Will, Liam and Graham.
The family is having a private memorial ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Paul’s favorite charity, the American Cancer Society in honor of Liz.
