Pauline Virginia Merritt

Pauline (Polly) Virginia Stallings Merritt, 88, of Fort Mill, SC, departed this earth and stepped into the arms of her Savior, Jesus on March 1, 2024, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, SC.

Polly was born in Rock Hill on October 9, 1935.  She was the daughter of the late Annie Bell and Lewis Stallings of Fort Mill.

Polly was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dan & Dovie Stallings, Fort Mill, and her husband, Cecil Merritt of Indian Land. And last year, her special cousin, Elma “Elmie” Stallings Merritt, who she loved dearly.

Survivors include her sister, Betty Stallings Cunnup, Fort Mill, SC.  Two nieces, Elizabeth (Beth) Cunnup Prather (David) Grover, NC and Darlene Cunnup, Fort Mill, SC and her great-nephew, John Prather Grover, NC.

Polly had been a member of Philadelphia United Methodist church since she was 11 years old.   She was employed by Springs Cotton Mills in Fort Mill and her last job before retirement was with Hamrick’s Fort Mill.

Pauline’s motto for her life was “faith, will & determination will get you through anything”. Polly was a special, strong, and feisty lady who was loved by so many and will be missed so very much.

Polly’s family would like to thank Donna Schaefer (and Norm); Patti Redden; the nurses & staff at White Oak Manor Rock Hill; the nurses & staff at Hospice & Community Care in Rock Hill and Colleen, Polly’s Hospice Volunteer & friend.  The wonderful care, laughter, and joy you all brought to Polly was a blessing to us.

Visitation will be from 10:15-10:45 Tuesday at Philadelphia United Methodist Church Fort Mill, SC with the Celebration of Life service following at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Kevin Cooley officiating.

Interment will be at Unity Cemetery, Fort Mill, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Community Care , 2275 India Hook Rd, Rock Hill, SC   29732
