Phillip Simpson Jerauld of Rock Hill, SC, passed away Nov. 26, 2023, at Willowbrook Skilled Nursing Center of Park Pointe Village. He is survived by his wife, Janet Thomas Jerauld and his stepsons – Timothy Edward Warren (Kimberly) of Garfield Heights, OH and Daniel Franklin Warren (Candace) of Fuquay-Varina, NC. He was the son of Covel Thurber Jerauld of Seekonk, MA and Shirley Simpson Jerauld of Elyria, OH both predeceasing him. He is survived by two brothers, Dr. Richard Simpson Jerauld of Towson, MD and Peter Simpson Jerauld of Dublin, OH and their families and by his 2 children and 4 grandchildren – Marc Phillip Jerauld (Beth) and Zoe Elizabeth Jerauld and Reese Virginia Jerauld of Lewis Center, OH and Jennifer Jerauld Straub (Frank) and Patrick Francis Straub and Julia Straub of Napierville, IL.
Phil was a graduate of Dulaney High School, Timonium, MD; Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, OH (BA in Education); University of Akron, Akron, OH (MA in Political Science). He taught Government and Economics for most of 31 years in the Berea City School system where he also coached soccer and the Mock Trial team and escorted students on a week-long trip to Washington, DC to participate in the Close-Up Program. Phillip also participated in a teacher exchange with Morioka, Japan, through the Close-Up program. After retiring in Ohio in 1998, Phil and his wife moved to Rock Hill, SC. He substituted and then taught for four years in the Fort Mill School District. He was a fan of Winthrop University Athletics; traveling with the basketball teams to St. Thomas twice for the Paradise Jam. He and Jan entertained team members at their home for dinner. He also served a term on the Eagle Club Board. He served the City of Rock Hill on the Board of Historic Review for 13 years, the last eight as Chairperson. He served the community of Park Pointe Village on the resident’s board (IRC), as a committee chairperson, reading to residents of Willowbrook Court and overseeing some of the fund raising for the IRC. He also served on the Vestry of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior for three years and volunteered at Historic Brattonsville in Admissions for major events.

Following there will be a memorial service in the community room at Park Pointe Village at 2:00 PM at 3025 Chesbrough Blvd Rock Hill, SC 29732
