Raymond Joseph Cowart, 75 passed away Tuesday August 19, 2014 at CMC in Charlotte, NC surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born May 14, 1939 in Guntersville, AL to the late, Lewis Nathaniel and Susie Ann Cowart. He was preceded in death by his brothers Noel Cowart, Haden Cowart, John Cowart, sisters, Erlien McKelvey and Flora Cunningham. Raised in Philadelphia, PA he met his soul mate Ruth Naomi Wilson and they married on November 28, 1959. He had a passion for golf, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Phillies. In 1969 Ray and his family moved to Dallas, GA and later to Kennesaw, GA where he owned a construction company eventually moving the company to Charlotte, NC. In 1993 he started Charlotte Plastering, Inc. in which his family is currently operating. Over the years he has built the reputation as a quality contractor in the Charlotte and surrounding areas as well as in Charleston, SC. Ray was a kind and generous man that has been loved by many through the years. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Ruth Cowart, children Stephen Cowart (Christine), Daniel Cowart, Laurie Hogan (Mike), Stacey Labrador (Angel), Christopher Cowart all of Fort Mill, SC, brother Lynn Cowart (JoAnn) of Gadsden, AL, sisters Gladys Boles of Marietta, GA and Mary Nell Cowart of Huntsville, AL; his six precious grandchildren Kara (Ben), Raymond, Shane, Rachel, Trey and Alex, step-grandchildren Heather , Tom (Janie) and Jesse, and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday August 23, 2014 at 12:00pm at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC and a funeral mass at 1:00pm with Fr. Joe Pearce officiating. A reception will be held at the Parish Center immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to The Care Haven at 852 Gold Hill Rd.
