The Reverend Roddey Reid, Jr., 91, who lived in Naples, Florida, died September 14, 2010. Born in Rock Hill, South Carolina, he was the son of Roddey and Elizabeth Lemmond Reid. He was baptized and confirmed at Church of Our Savior, Rock Hill where his grandfather, Samuel Lafayette Reid and his grandmother Frances Baskin Reid had been early leaders of the church and where his father was a Warden and Vestryman. He was a graduate of Duke University and the School of Theology, Sewanee, Tennessee. The Rev. Reid was ordained to the Episcopal Ministry in 1944 and served churches in Anderson, South Carolina, Knoxville, Tennessee, and Bristol, Virginia, and Wilmington, Delaware. He was first Director of The Clergy Deployment Office of the Episcopal Church in New York City. After retirement, he was an assistant to the Dean of the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University. He received honorary degrees from Berkeley and Seabury Western Seminaries. In 1941, he married Caroline Breedlove of Durham, North Carolina, with whom he had five children. She died in 1995. Later, he married Deborah Sprague Hoffman of Wellesley, Massachusetts and Naples. He is survived by his wife; his children, Caroline Reid Sorell, Elizabeth Reid Maruska, Lucile Reid, Scotia Reid, Roddey Reid, III, Deborah Miller, Harriet Hinmon, Roger Hoffman and Charles Hoffman; eleven grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church, Naples, Florida. Final committal was held in Rock Hill, South Carolina Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Reid Family Plot at Laurelwood Cemetery, The Reverend Charles S.
