Richard Francis Green

Richard Francis Green, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, in Fort Mill, South Carolina, at the age of 82. Born on August 17, 1942, Richard lived a life defined by loyalty, dedication, and a spirited personality that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

After graduation from Kent State University, he was commissioned into the United States Air Force on December 17, 1966.  Richard rose through the ranks, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1988. He served during the Vietnam War receiving several awards including the Vietnam Service Medal.  His exemplary service earned him numerous other accolades, including the Bronze Star and two Meritorious Service Medals from the USAF. During his time in the USAF he also completed a Master of Arts degree from Ball State University.  Following his military career, he served as Chief of Police at Morehead State University from 1989 to 1999, before continuing his dedicated public service as a civilian employee of the Air Force.  Prior to retirement in 2008, he was awarded the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award from the USAF.

Richard is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 59 years, Cheryll L. Green, and his daughter, Jennifer L. Stahler, and her husband J.P., of Plano, Texas. He is also survived by his son, Michael B. Green, and his wife Jordan, of Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as two adored grandchildren, Jay Stahler and Madeleine Green. Additionally he leaves behind his sisters, Pam Schatz and Shirley Kephart

Richard’s fierce loyalty and commitment to family will forever be remembered. His lively spirit, coupled with a deep sense of duty and love, has left an indelible mark on his family. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His burial will take place at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard's memory to a cancer charity of choice.
