Richard A. Weihs Sr, “Rich”, 74, of Indian Land SC, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, July 27, 2023 after a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 29, 1948 in Manhattan, son of the late John and Helen Weihs. Rich moved to the Bayview Beach section of coastal Milford, CT where he attended Milford High School and met the love of his life Beverly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Donald Weihs and sister Joan “Susie” Lenz.
Most important to Rich was his family. He leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by his survivors, his wife and best friend of 54 years, Beverly; his beloved children, Richard A. Weihs Jr. and wife Shelley of Harrisburg, NC and Kimberley Weihs and partner Len Pressley of Charleston, SC; his adored grandchildren Dominic Weihs and Anthony Weihs. He also leaves his loving nieces and nephews, many cherished cousins; a brother-in-law Robert Hoyt and sister-in-law Judy of SC.; a sister-in-law Iris Weihs of NY; and many extended family and friends. He was loved and adored by them all.
Rich loved his country and so naturally, he enlisted in the army. He was a patriotic man who proudly displayed his love for his country with his many hats, t-shirts, bumper stickers and decals. He always supported his brothers and sisters in uniform. He would often buy a meal and shake a hand to simply say thank you for your service.
Rich was a devoted husband and loving father. His family was his greatest joy and greatest accomplishment in life. He was an admired and dedicated baseball and football coach. Rich was very proud of his 1984 Milford Elks Football team bringing them all the way to the state championship with a win. “Coach” had a natural way of making the game fun with his influence and positivity leaving an impact and lasting legacy on the many kids he coached. Rich enjoyed playing softball, skiing, vacationing with his wife and children. He had a love of sports primarily football and a passion for family. He loved enjoying German food, a good beer or a bourbon with family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to memorialize and celebrate a life well lived on Saturday, October 14 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church 21 Robert Treat Pkwy, Milford, CT.
