Robert Ernest Gehret, 86, of Rock Hill, SC, passed away on December 20, 2022.

“Bob” was born on July 11, 1936 to Kathryn Butler Gehret and Mervin Milton Gehret in Riverside, NJ.   After Bob graduated from Riverside High School in 1953, he attended Pennington Prep School in Pennington N.J.  Bob went on to study at Gettysburg College in 1954, and obtained his bachelor’s degree at Rutger’s University in 1965.

While attending Rutger’s at night he initially served as a clerk at Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) in Camden N.J.  Bob was promoted consistently at PSE&G in their locations in Moorestown, N.J. and Newark, N.J., retiring in 1993 as the head of the Methods and Systems Department at the PSE&G Nuclear Power Plant.

Bob is survived by his five children, Kathryn M. Gehret, Robert E. Gehret, Jr., Ronald E. Gehret, Marie E. Gehret, and Matthew C. Gehret.  He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Heidi Gehret, Taylor Phelan Gehret, and Kathryn Gantz, and his grandchildren, Leah Gehret, Ally Gehret Bohanan, Demi Gehret, Derek Williams, Juliana Gehret, and Jaxon Gehret.

Bob was a gifted athlete and a prominent player on his high school baseball team.   He was also a starting forward on his high school basketball team where the team ascended to the New Jersey State Finals in 1953.  Bob was also a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan and a season ticket holder for decades.  One of his most joyous moments was being able to witness the Eagles winning a Super Bowl in the 2017-18 season.  He enjoyed his retirement, loved his children and grandchildren, and he spent much of his free time engaging with friends and acquaintances wherever he went.  Those who knew him loved him for his infectious sense of humor.  In addition, Bob held a special place in his heart for the many Corgis he owned and raised over the years.

Services will be held later this coming spring in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Corgi Rescue -New Jersey Animal Rescue ( corgi.rescueme.org) , an organization dedicated to helping Corgis who need a home.
