Robert Walter O’Loughlin, 79, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2023.
Bob was born on May 21, 1943 in Portland, Maine, and lived in California before moving with his family to Lowell, MA. He attended high school at Keith Academy in Lowell and graduated from Northeastern University in 1966, where he was a member of Beta Gamma Epsilon fraternity and the first NU crew team, which participated in the Henley Regatta in England in 1965. Bob served in the US Army in Germany, after which he spent his business career as an executive with Union Carbide/Praxair until he retired in 1998.
Bob was the beloved husband of Madeleine (Lynne) O’Loughlin, father of Michael O’Loughlin, Stephen O’Loughlin and Keri Millo, and grandfather of Julia O’Loughlin, Avery Millo, Abby Millo and Pierce O’Loughlin.
Bob is also survived by his sister Carol Johnson and her husband Ray Kibbee, son-in-law Joe Millo, brother-in-law Rudy Michl, sister-in-law Pam Waring and brother-in law Paul Waring and his wife Jan Waring.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews who enjoyed his wit and wisdom as well as his practical advice on everything from finance to education and many other topics.
Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather - a generous and caring man with a contagious laugh and a large personality. Bob enjoyed boating and sports, and was an avid skier, tennis and pickle ball player. He also enjoyed traveling and flying remote controlled airplanes with friends. Bob was a history buff and could answer any question about history or geography on Jeopardy, which he watched every night.
Bob designed the beautiful home on Cobbetts Pond in Windham, NH, where he and Lynne moved after they retired. They hosted family and friends for many gatherings there, including bridge games, neighborhood dinners, holiday and even wedding parties. Bob loved parties and was always interested in hearing about every guest's story/history. He enjoyed taking friends and family for boat rides around the lake and teaching the children and grandchildren how to swim and water-ski.
