Robert John Plaza, Jr., age 52, of Fort Mill, SC passed away July 5, 2021 from stage 4 stomach cancer. Bob was born on September 20, 1968 in New Britain, CT. On March 15, 2008, he married Carolyn (Chase) Plaza in Sudbury, MA.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his loving daughters, Claire and Charlotte; mother, Jo Ann (Fredrickson) Goodemote and step father, Mark Goodemote and sister, Kristen (Kevin) Weisensee, all of Colchester, CT. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert John Plaza, Sr.
Bob attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Britain, CT, received a degree in accounting at Central Connecticut State University and went on to become a CPA. Bob held several financial services roles beginning his career in public accounting at KPMG and culminating as a Corporate CFO at TIAA in Charlotte, NC, where he has been employed for the last 5 years.
A gifted cook, Bob was happiest with a kitchen full of family and friends enjoying the abundant feasts he would so effortlessly prepare. He was an avid fan of MMA and NASCAR. However, his favorite team to watch was America’s team the Dallas Cowboys. Bob treasured family vacations in Isle of Palms, soaking up relaxing beach time with his wife and daughters.
Bob approached his cancer battle with the same strength, tenacity and warrior attitude he exhibited in life. Be Bold, Be Badass, Be Bob! Christmas won’t be the same this year without his outlandish “wish list”, where one could be sure to find requests for luxury automobiles, vacation homes, extravagant cookware, political oddities and other absurdities!
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Drive, Fort Mill.
