It is with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to our father Robert
Benjamin Renner, Jr. on July 5, 2022. Dad was 85. He is survived by
his children Chris Vrabel, Robbin Carson, Lisa Renner and Kent Renner
and 6 grandkids and 3 great-grandchildren. He was affectionately
known by his grandkids as Grumps. He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Betty Renner.
Dad was born in Huntington, WV and grew up in Ironton, Ohio. Dad was
an excellent athlete all his life and was initially drafted by the
Cincinnati Red Sox out of High School. He instead chose to study and
eventually receive a Masters in Economics at Ohio University and then
went on to start his career at Ford Motor in Dearborn, MI.
Dad was an avid golfer all his life and picked up tennis and excelled
at that as well. He shot lower than his age on the golf course
numerous times in his 70s and 80s and was a North Carolina
state-ranked singles tennis player well into his 70s.
Dad loved to be on the tennis courts at Raleigh Racquet Club or on any
golf course. He was well supported in his later years by his friends
at the Racquet Club to ensure he got out to play tennis and golf
weekly until he was 83. Dad also loved to ski and race sailboats with
his brother Steve.
Dad ran his own business, RC Printing in Raleigh, until he was 80 and
absolutely loved visiting his customers in Kinston and Goldsboro on a
weekly basis.
Dad was truly the energizer bunny and was always quick to smile and laugh.
Dad we will miss your energy and passion for life.
