Robert (Bob) Riordan was born to John and Elizabeth Riordan on August 25, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY. The second of four brothers, his early life was shaped in NY State and the Pittsburgh, PA area, before the family settled in New Providence, NJ. An Eagle Scout, Bob attended the College of Steubenville, (now “Franciscan University of Steubenville”), in Steubenville, OH. While there, he played Football and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity while completing his degree.
Upon graduation, Bob moved into his professional life in the Insurance Business. His career took him into various roles and locations across the country. Highlights of his Insurance career included being an Associate to the CEO of Fireman’s Fund Insurance, representing the Company to Wall Street; then Western Regional Manager for Fireman’s Fund Insurance located in Southern California, and finally COO of California Indemnity Insurance (aka “CII Financial”) working statewide in the Workers’ Compensation Field and living in Benicia, California.
Bob’s life markedly changed during his time in California when his sons, Zachary and Christian, were born. Bob and family ultimately relocated to the Carolinas where he left the Insurance Business and opened his own small business in the Fire Safety industry. Bob resided in the Fort Mill, SC area for the remainder of his life.
An avid sports enthusiast, Bob particularly loved baseball, the NY Yankees, and was a fan of both football and golf. It was not uncommon to receive a call from Bob at major sporting events nationwide as he shared those experiences with family and friends. He was also a sports memorabilia collector, particularly of baseball memorabilia. Bob was a dedicated, selfless friend to many from every aspect of his life.
Bob experienced some heart related health challenges in his later years. He passed away suddenly on April 27, 2024. Bob is survived by his two sons, Zachary and Christian of Chicago IL; his brothers John (Patty) and Paul Riordan (Mary) of Pittsburgh PA area, Peter (Terry) Riordan of Towson MD, niece Kelsey and nephew Peter Jr.
