Catawba - Mr. Roger Frank Baker, 78, of 1225 Little Roy Lane, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at his home.
Memorial services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Roddey Baptist Church with Pastor Ronnie Helms and Pastor Gary Atkins officiating.
A native of Rembert, SC, Mr. Baker was a son of the late Carl Luke and Beatrice Rogers Baker. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father who was always very hands on in helping around the house. He loved playing Santa Clause. He taught all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren how to drive and when they completed their lessons they all received a Certificate of Achievement. He was an avid golf cart enthusiast and loved riding around with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the fighting Seabees ("We Build", "We Fight", Seabees "Can Do"). He loved westerns and was a cowboy at heart. He worked in the children's ministry at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church and Roddey Baptist Church where everyone knew him as Sherriff Roger. He was also a current member of Roddey Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Joyce Vaughan Baker; a son Jeff Baker and his wife, Lisa; a daughter, Sheila Tadlock and her husband, Scott; a brother, Billy Baker and his wife, Glenda of Alabama; a sister, Betty Blyther and her husband, Jerryl of Camden; four grandchildren, Brandon Tadlock, Allyson Johnson and her husband, D.J., Joshua Baker and Ariel Baker and five great-grandchildren, Chase Johnson, Bayleigh Johnson, Clayton Johnson, Maddie Tadlock, and Spencer Baker. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Ann Baker and a brother, Carl Baker, Jr.
