Ronald Brevard Cousart

Ronald Brevard Cousart (Tega Cay, SC) was born in Fort Mill, SC on June 20, 1938 and passed away on September 24, 2020 at the Blake at Baxter Village under Riverview Hospice care.

He went through the Fort Mill School System, was raised in the First Baptist Church of Fort Mill and was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts.  Along with being an avid hunter and billiards player, he received his Amatuer Radio (HAM) license and joined the SC National Guard, all while in high school.

After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, traveling the world extensively and visiting almost every continent.  Tours of interest included the China Sea during the Vietnam War, the Caribbean during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Suez Canal during wartime between Egypt and Israel.  Most of his time in the navy was spent as a Radar and Missile Guidance System Specialist.  After considerable time in this field, he became an instructor and teacher at military installation schools across the United States for his specialty services.  While serving his regular duties, he was an eleven-year member of the USN Rifle and Pistol team earning the Expert Medal and qualifying as a Sharpshooter, compiling dozens of awards and trophies including Camp Perry and the Pan American Games.  He spent the final years in the USN, at MOTU-2 (Mobile Technical Unit- 2), based in Norfolk, Va., applying his knowledge, on call worldwide, whenever and wherever the US Gov’t needed him.  He retired with the rank of MCPO (Master Chief Petty Officer) in 1980 after 27 years in the USN.

After navy retirement, he moved from Va., back to York County and went to work for Duke Power.  At this time, he also received his Mechanical Engineering degree and built a home on Lake Wylie in Tega Cay.  For twenty years, he worked at Catawba Nuclear Station in the I&E department.  His free time was spent fishing, boating, woodworking, gardening and activities with his four granddaughters- Alex Cousart (CU) and Courtney (CU), Chloe (CU) and Rachel (FMHS) Templeton.  After his second career retirement, he became president for the Duke Power Retirees, holding that position for several years.

Ron was preceded in death by his father Brevard Faris Cousart, his mother Beulah  Stogner Waters and his step-father Arnold Waters.  He is survived by his wife Sandra Cousart (Tega Cay), son Randal Cousart (Fort Mill), daughter Tracey Templeton (Fort Mill) and sister Beverly Waters Woodard (Sonny – Clarksville, TN).

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 at 11 o'clock.  It will be held at Unity Cemetery, Fort Mill, SC.

The family would like to thank The Blake’s and Riverview Hospice’s staff for going beyond the call of duty with Ron’s final year.
