Ronald Lee Harris, a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a beacon of kindness, generosity, and friendliness to everyone he came across left this life’s chapter and move to his eternal home on September 26, 2024, at the grand age of 90. Ronald lived a life rich in love, service, and laughter.
Ronald Harris is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Roberta Brown Harris, His daughter Deborah Lynn Harris and her husband Jamal Madouh, his son Donald Charles Harris, his son Robert Lee Harris and his wife Claudett Harris, nine grand children, nine great-grand children, his sister Patricia Ann Gathings and many nieces and nephews.
Reflecting on Ronald's essence, one cannot overlook his extraordinary embodiment of the festive spirit of Santa Claus. Picture this: a man whose appearance and demeanor were so akin to the cherished Santa Claus depicted by Norman Rockwell and celebrated on Time Magazine. He wasn't merely dressing the part; Ronald incarnated the joy and wonderment associated with Santa. His initial role as Santa at Charlotte Metro School spiraled into a tradition, where he'd bring joy not only to children but adults alike, recalling, vividly, a family trip to Halifax, where upon being recognized as Santa, he was surrounded by adults, all gleefully engaging in Christmas wishes and dreams. Ronald, in his beautiful way, extended the essence of Santa beyond the material -- he was the custodian of joy, dreams, and pure, heartfelt smiles.
Ronald was a christian and a belief in the Grand Architect of the Universe coursed deeply through Ronald's veins, underpinning his actions and outlook on life, fortifying his benevolence. It's this foundation of faith that shone brightly, guided him, and was reflected in his kindness and generous spirit.
Ronald's tapestry of life was rich not just in personal attributes but in achievements and pursuits that marked his presence in this world. Not only was he a proud graduate of Harding High School and Central Piedmont College, but he also dedicated over five decades of his life to the HVAC industry, significantly impacting the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. Beyond professional accomplishments, his lifelong commitment to Freemasonry, where he ascended to a 32nd degree Mason, underscored his belief in upliftment, service, and the profound maxim of "Making Good Men Better."
Ronald’s three children Donald, Robert, and Debbie Harris, stand as testaments to his loving guidance, his tireless spirit, and the joy he poured into their lives. Ronald’s dedication to his wife, Roberta, was inseparable in every way and his active participation in the Harding-West Class of the '60s Reunion spotlight his uncanny ability to nurture and cherish the bonds of camaraderie and love especially considering the fact that he was not a member of the 1960’s classes having graduated from Harding High School in 1952. They counted him among their classes.
Among Ronald's joys was the restoration of antique cars, particularly Fords. It was in the camaraderie, the shared endeavors with close friends, where his happiness bloomed the brightest. However, to say Ronald enjoyed hobbies would be to overlook the spirit with which he approached life -- a philosophy where mediocrity had no residence, where planning big was not about grandeur but insuring every moment created memories of love and unity.
The enduring impact Ronald left on the lives he touched is immortalized in the words echoed by many: "Ronald was always so kind to me." This simple yet profound accolade reaffirms Ronald’s intrinsic belief that every person mattered, deserved respect, and friendship was merely a conversation away. It did not matter if you were a stranger in a grocery line or a high-ranking official; to Ronald, you were a person of worth, a 'future friend.'
In stories shared, in memories cherished, and in the acts of kindness we extend to one another, Ronald lives on. He believed in joy, in dreams, in the fundamental good within all people, and in the power of community.
