Ronald Lee Johnson

March 12, 1928 — May 15, 2017

Fort Mill
Ronald Lee Johnson, age 89, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, May 15, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born on March 12, 1928 to Michael and Julia Johnson. Ron proudly served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army from 1946 to 1953. In 1959, he earned a degree in dentistry from the University of Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh. He went on to open a private dental practice with his wife in Charlotte, NC. He was adored by his many patients and will be forever remembered for the "beautiful teeth" he so lovingly made. Dr. Johnson was a perfectionist in everything he did; his kindness, determination and work ethic set an example for us all.

Of all his many accomplishments, it was his family that he was most proud. Nothing meant more to him than family gatherings, adventures and just time spent listening to whatever was on our hearts, especially his grandchildren and their spouses whom he lovingly called, "the boys". For nearly 65 years he was completely devoted to his wife, Ann Biggers Johnson. He was the proud father of three children, Jeffrey Michael Johnson (stillborn), Lisa Johnson Pendergraph and Leslie Robin Johnson. Ron adored his son-in-love Buddy Pendergraph with whom he shared many moments of "guy time" for more than four decades. His love for his granddaughters, Sheryl Pendergraph, Erin Tweed along with her husband Madison, Kendall Francis along with her husband, Collin and great-granddaughters, Raven and Riley Pendergraph knew no bounds. "The kids" were the light of his life during a blessedly long retirement. Ron is also survived by his only sibling, Darrell Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral service will be held at Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill, SC on Saturday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be immediately after the service at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Charlotte, NC. with military honors.

Memorials may be sent to the local Veterans Charity, Charlotte Bridge Home 2200 E. 7th St Charlotte, NC 28204, to honor Ron's passion for those who served our great country.
