Rose Marian (Costner) Lowder

May 30, 1941 — May 9, 2023

Fort Mill, SC - Rose Marian Costner Lowder, 81, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at her home, lovingly surrounded by her children.

The family will receive friends 10:30 am - Noon, Monday, May 15, 2023, at Sisk Memorial Baptist Church.  A funeral service will follow at Noon at the church with the Rev. Reid McAteer officiating.  Burial will be in Unity Cemetery.

“Rose,” as she was called by everyone from Rock Hill and “Marian” by those in Fort Mill, was born on May 30, 1941, in Rock Hill, SC, to the late Vernon (Bundt) and Edith Whisonant Costner. Rose Marian turned 18 years old on May 30, 1959, graduated from Rock Hill High School on June 3, 1959, and married the love of her life, Tommy (“Red”) Lowder on June 5, 1959. They happily settled into a home on Banks Street in Fort Mill, SC, in 1960, where they raised three children – Mitch, Lynn and Ken. The home was also where they celebrated 42 years of marriage until Tommy’s passing on March 3, 2001. Rose Marian continued living in the same home on Banks Street, for a total of 62 years, until her recent passing. After marrying and moving to Fort Mill, Rose Marian was at the First Baptist Church in Fort Mill as their Church Secretary for 15 years. Rose Marian went on to work for several Trucking companies in Charlotte, NC, before retiring from Wikoff Color Corp in Fort Mill.  Rose will be remembered as a loving, kind, and generous person.  Her family, friends and church family were always important to her.

Surviving are her three children, Mitch Lowder and his wife, Susan of Newberry, SC, Lynn Lowder Tong and her husband, Hoan, of York, SC, and Ken Lowder and his wife, Lori of Fort Mill, SC; a sister, Vicky Costner Phillips Adkins of York, SC; and 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.  Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Lowder; and a brother, Vernon Costner.
