Ruth Ferguson Pierce

Rock Hill - Mrs. Ruth Ferguson Pierce, 81, of 1330 India Hook Road. died Monday, September 19, 2011, at CMC - Main.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday December 31, 2011, at Mount Prospect United Methodist Church, Richburg SC.

Born in Sumter, SC, on April 9, 1930 Mrs. Pierce was a daughter of a Methodist minister. She lived in various place in South Carolina while growing up. She had a two year commercial course at Lander College, Greenwood, SC and then went to Scarritt College, Nashville, TN to complete the educational requirements to become a Deaconess in The United Methodist Church. She worked in education at Trinity United Methodist Church, Newport News, Va. and St. John's United Methodist Church, Rock Hill. In 1967 she resigned as a Deaconess and married Crowell Pierce in Rock Hill. She worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. In 1986, she and her husband moved to Chattanooga, TN. After the death of her husband in 1996, she moved back to Rock Hill and lived in Westminster Towers Retirement Center.

Surviving are nieces, Maurice O. Renfrow of Richburg and Patricia Renfrow of Richburg; her nephews, Steve and Claude Renfrow of Richburg, Paul Renfrow of Huntington Beach, CA, Frampton Renfrow of Mexico, Joe Renfrow of Rialto, CA, Jess Ferguson, of Sheldon, SC, Bill Ferguson of Ridgeland, SC, Frampton Ferguson of Furman, SC; her stepchildren, Jean Hooper, of Chattanooga, TN, Dan Pierce, of Carrollton, TX and Doris Manus; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
