Ruth Mcwhirter Walmer

Ruth McWhirter Walmer died peacefully of natural causes on March 16th, 2017 in Rock Hill, South Carolina at the age of 90.

She is survived by her four children, David Walmer, Neal Walmer, Mary Troyer, and Rebecca Smith and 13 grandchildren, Caitlin Smith, Reagan Smith, Alex Walmer, Michael Walmer, Brian Walmer, Sean Walmer, Evan Walmer, Noah Walmer, Guerda Walmer, Wes Troyer, Jordan Troyer, Braeden Troyer, and Mya Troyer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Walmer, who passed away in Columbia, SC 11 years earlier to the day (March 16th, 2007).

Ruth was born in Mercer, PA on April 21st, 1927 to John Herman McWhirter and Blanche Anderson McWhirter. She graduated from Penn State University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and went to work as a Dietician at the Polyclinic in Harrisburg, PA. On Sept. 1st, 1951, she and Don Walmer were married and over the next 15 years, welcomed four beautiful children into their home. Ruth was known for her love of children, the arts, pictures of her grandchildren, the pool, the color pink, red wine, and anything sweet (namely chocolate)!

A funeral is scheduled for April 20th at 4:00pm at Westminster Towers in Rock Hill, South Carolina with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ruth's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Family Health Ministries at www.familyhm.org. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a joyful spirit with plenty of sass who loved to travel, dance, and visit with friends and family. She will be missed and fondly remembered.
