Ruth Elaine McConnell, “Elaine”, 65, of Fort Mill, SC and formerly of Roswell, NM, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday August 21, 2023 while receiving care and family comfort at Pineville Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pineville, NC. She was born July 30, 1958 in Midland, TX, daughter of the late Beaumont and Joan Cooley.
Enthusiastic and confident by nature, Elaine savored all things new and old. Job and life changes always thrust her into new situations where she would adapt and flourish. New things to see, to do, and to eat gave her great fulfillment. Things that were old held a special place in Elaine’s heart. English history mesmerized her as she constantly aimed to establish the connection to one’s origins and the manner in which the architecture flowed so beautifully through time in each period. Elaine spent countless hours scouring Edingsville Beach for fossils and centuries old building materials from the original Edingsville Beach settlement.
Elaine loved art. As an accomplished painter, she created beautiful compositions of things she adored from fashion to creatures of the marshland and ocean and the low country landscape. Elaine also possessed a perfect coloratura soprano voice that would overwhelm an angel with tears of joy.
‘The Bay’ at Edingsville Beach was Elaine’s favorite place. Every possible moment was spent in a rocking chair moving with the breeze taking every gorgeous view of tumbling ocean waves or Blue Herons stalking the marsh grass for fiddler crabs. At home she would spend hours in her kitchen rocker reading the paper gazing at the panoramic view of the lake. Whether tailgating at a Clemson football game or worshipping at Moments of Hope Farm, she was in her foldup rocking chair. Elaine was in perpetual motion.
Elaine was a graduate of New Mexico State University. She built a forty-year sales career in publishing working for Research Institute of America and Commerce Clearing House. She leaves behind beloved memories cherished by her survivors: her husband of 37 years, Bob McConnell; son Mitchell McConnell of Fort Mill, SC and her daughter Marissa McConnell of Fort Mill, SC.
A Celebration of Life service will be held by the family.
The family extends their sincerest appreciation to all of the physicians, nurses and support staff and her beloved church family and friends for their unwavering compassionate and supportive care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Moments of Hope Church ‘Gifts’.
