Samuel Johnson

July 26, 1931 — September 16, 2021

Tega Cay – Mr. Samuel Johnson, 90, died Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Levine Dickson Southminster.

A graveside service will be 12:00 pm, Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC with the Rev. Jeffery McWatters officiating.

A native of Pineville, KY, Mr. Johnson was a son of the late Reuben Dee Johnson and Mossie Cox Johnson.  To help support his family, Johnson went to work at a local sawmill at the age of 14. He later volunteered to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he served for almost two years in front-line combat and artillery fire control. While in the army he completed education and training which helped him later in life. After his service, he earned a GED and an associate's certificate in Tool and Die apprenticeship.  He loved his work and dedicated himself to his trade, working for many years at the Ford Motor Company, Pratt & Whitney, and Hilti Corporation where he retired in the 1990's. He moved with his family to South Carolina in the early 2000's after his first grandson was born. He always enjoyed home projects, working with his hands, and fixing things. He also enjoyed reading, spending time with family, and following current events. Johnson will be remembered as a kind, patient, and caring man who was loved by almost everyone he met.

Surviving are his three children, Sharon Lee Johnson (Maher Melli), Sandra Sue Johnson, and Samuel James Johnson (Bettie Obi Johnson); two brothers, Dee Johnson and Danny Johnson (Betty Jean Johnson); two grandchildren, Samuel James Johnson II and Jessica Farrish Johnson.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Mae Johnson.
