It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sandra Jean Pittman Kidd (Jeannie) of Fort Mill, South Carolina. She passed away in her home on March 31, 2024 at the age of 74, after battling leukemia and dementia.
Jeannie was born on April 11, 1949 to Bill and Doris Pittman. She was one of five children and was the eldest daughter. After she graduated from Fort Mill High School, she worked at General Tire and then Springs Industries for 39 years.
In 1967, Jeannie married Gary O’Neal Kidd and went on to have three sons, Michael Scott and twins Brian O’Neal and Keith O'Brian (who died at birth).
Jeannie was very active in her early years participating in the track team, cheerleading, the Miss Fort Mill pageant, the Jaycee-ettes, and church.
In 2014, Jeannie retired from Springs Industries and spent her time cooking, fishing, playing cards, singing, attending church, and teaching Sunday School. She loved to visit the mountains and coasts of the Carolinas and specifically enjoyed her second home in Santee, South Carolina. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, which always involved good food and lots of laughter. Jeannie was a storytelier and enjoyed participating in jokes, conversations, and reliving memories of the good times. Jeannie was a member of Doby’s Bridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Doris Pittman, her brother Bill Pittman, her son Keith Kidd, and her great grandson Elijah Burdette. She is survived by her husband Gary, her son Michael Kidd (wife Tracy) and granddaughters Lauren Kidd (fiancé Ryan Tipton) and Kelsie Kidd, and son Brian Kidd (wife Tina) and granddaughter Brittany Kidd (fiancé Chris Jones, great grandson Easton, and great granddaughter Baylor), grandson Aaron Burdette (wife Meikala), grandson Ethan Burdette (wife Fiona, great granddaughter Luna, great grandson Wyatt, great granddaughter Emery, and great grandson Jaxon), and granddaughters Calah Burdette and Sarah Burdette. She is also survived by her three sisters Shirley Bruce (husband George), Debbie Ward (husband Tommy) and Donna Helms, and her sister-in- law Marian Pittman, and their families.
Jeannie will be remembered for all the love she shared with family and friends. She was strong in her Christian faith and will rejoice in her eternal home. She will be remembered and missed dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at the Palmetto Funeral Home on April 3rd at 1, with visitation from 12 to 1. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to MSA Hospice (1470 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill SC 29732 or call 978-273-9197), an organization that supported Jeannie and the family exceptionally well over the past few months.
