Sharon Ann Powers, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the young age of 74 on the morning of April 3rd 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Eugene, Oregon to Edward John Voss and Viola Selma Voss. Sharon grew up in Eagle Rock, California and was the youngest of three daughters. In July 1969, she met the love of her life, Billy Ray Powers. In a whirlwind romance, the lovebirds each knew they found “the one” and were married on January 9th 1970. While living and raising their three children in California, they enjoyed being outdoors, spontaneous drives all up and down the west coast, fishing at the lake, and camping under the stars. The family moved to the Carolinas in 1984 to be part of the PTL Christian ministry.
Mom was a woman of God and devoted Christian, her fierce faith in the Lord was unwavering and she had a heart full of hope in all things. Mom and Dad prayed together daily and was a cherished member of the church, where she was always present to serve in any way, helped coordinate events and was always the last one to leave and lock up the doors. Mom loved Jesus, and followed His example her whole life and was a pillar of strength to many. Mom was a lighthouse of hope to everyone as she gently illuminated God’s promises with words of encouragement and compassion. Those who knew and loved our mom could easily describe her as a lover of life, witty, compassionate, and caring. Mom had the spirit, heart, and will of her favorite bird, the hummingbird and was mesmerizing in the way she moved with determination, ease, and grace through any obstacle she faced. Anything mom put her mind too got accomplished as she was resourceful and very creative. Mom was always full of energy and could always make a rainy day fun. Her positive outlook of life gave her the ability to always find the silver lining in all situations and raise your spirits and hopes. Mom loved music and was especially fond of when her Groom sang sweetly to her. She had many passions and was exceptional at all of them but being a master painter was her true God given talent. Mom expressed her love for nature, seascapes and her beloved Jesus Christ through her remarkable ability of mixing colors and putting her brush to the canvas. Her family cherishes the art she created more than gold.
Mom was also an accomplished baker and an expert in cake decorating. She had an eye for interior decorating and crafting glorious floral arrangements and created magnificent masterpieces of all kinds that reflected the beautiful life she lived. Mom joy and zest for life magnified as her family grew. She cherished being with her beloved grand-babies and taking them on adventures. The family has so many wonderful memories of trips to the beach to pick the shore line for the best sea shells, apple picking in the fall and camping in the Blue Ridge mountains, roasting marshmallows around the blazing camp fire. Mom loved togetherness and celebrating holidays, birthdays or any reason to gather and delighted in cooking for her whole family. Mom brought smiles and joy to everyone around her and she is loved very much. In her final days, mom was surrounded by those who love her to their core.
Her lifelong sweetheart, who affectionately calls her Momma, sang to her with a love so tender and called on Jesus to carry her home with peace. His songs and prayers over her were medicine to her heart to ease her pain and bring calmness to her passionate soul. Mom went to heaven knowing she is deeply loved and cherished by her family.
Momma is survived by her loving husband, Bill Powers, and her adoring children Drew Voss, Deana Kendadi, Darla Godwin, Aaron Powers, son-in-laws Tim Godwin and Tauofik Kendadi, daughter in laws Kelli Voss and Kim Powers. Grandma to grandsons Austin Voss, Christian Godwin, and Kaeden Kendadi, and granddaughters Amanda Voss, Celeste Godwin, Taylor Powers, and Annabelle Fletcher. Great Grandma to great-grandson Sebastian Fletcher, Dorian Ramsey, and great-granddaughter Atlas Fletcher.
The family would like to especially like to thank the incredible team of nurses and doctors at Atrium Health in Pineville, NC for their compassionate care of Mom in her final days. A graveside funeral service will be held at Bass-Cauthen Funeral and Cemetery Home for Sharon’s immediate family on Friday April 8th 2022 at 11am. A Celebration of her life will follow at Palmetto Funeral home at 12pm and is open to all who loved her dearly.
