Shawn K. Keel- father, grandfather, boss, hunter, friend- died on Monday February 16, 2015 in Charlotte, NC. He was 58. Shawn was born in Patterson, NJ to Terrance and Jean Keel. He found his calling in the industrial valve industry and founded Universal Components, Inc. in 1984 in Rock Hill, SC where he lived and worked for 31 years. With the business, Shawn traveled the world and enjoyed immersing himself in the local food and culture. Shawn loved to hunt. He went on multiple safaris in Africa and numerous other hunting and fishing adventures around the world. He could be seen cruising around town on his Harley Davidson and occasionally wearing shoes. He always enjoyed a cold drink and socializing with his friends and family. Shawn was devoted to and loved his family and his work family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Terrance and Jean Keel and his granddaughter, Kylie Keel. He is survived by his two sons and their families; Ryan and his wife Katie Keel and their two children Anna and James Ryan, and Kevin and his wife Kenzie Keel, his sister Michelle and husband Ron Cahoon, his brother Todd and wife Linda Keel, along with two nieces and two nephews. Visitation will be Friday February 20, 2015 at 1:00 pm at St. Anne's in Rock Hill. A funeral mass will begin at 2:00 pm and a reception will follow at McHale's Irish Pub. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Catawba River Keepers Foundation.
