Shelley Ruehrmund Kuhn

December 15, 1948 — February 5, 2022

Fort Mill

Shelley Ruehrmund Kuhn, 73 years of age, passed away peacefully at her home in Fort Mill, SC and entered into the arms of her Savior Jesus on Feb 5, 2022.  Shelley had been fighting bladder cancer for over a year, and although cancer took her earthly life, we are rejoicing that she has now entered eternal life, where she can sing God’s praises continually!

Shelley Jean was born on December 15, 1948, in Baltimore, MD to the late (USN) Capt. Paul L. Ruehrmund Jr and the late Marcelle Lash Ruehrmund. She was the middle of three children; her younger sister, the late Virginia Ruehrmund, preceded her in death. Shelley graduated high school from Coronado High School, Coronado, CA, and graduated college from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA. Shelley worked and volunteered in many different areas over the course of her life, but in all of them, she loved to serve the Lord by joyfully ministering to people- whether she did this by singing and playing her autoharp for nursing home residents, working at a school for disabled students,  knitting hats for new babies, or caring for her own children, she loved to demonstrate the love of Jesus by serving others. Some of her last words were: “I wish everyone knew how much Jesus loves us.”

Shelley married Rodney L. Kuhn in Richmond, Va in 1978, and had three children. She and her husband spent the majority of their married life living in Little Meadows, PA, but also enjoyed traveling and living abroad, and most recently chose to spend part of the year living in Fort Mill, SC. Shelley loved painting and crafting, spending time with family, picking blueberries at their property in PA, reading her Bible, and worshipping the Lord in song. She loved singing to the Lord so much that hours before her death, she was still requesting to sing hymns, with her last request being “”I love to tell the story”.  Shelley also loved to pray and took the role of prayer warrior very seriously. She spent many hours praying for friends, family, missionaries, and others that needed prayer. Shelley was always wearing a smile on her face, and was willing to do whatever was needed to help and bless others. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and friend who will be greatly missed and will always be remembered for how much she loved to tell the story of Jesus and His love.

Shelley is survived by: her husband of 43 years, Rodney L. Kuhn, of Little Meadows, PA,  daughter Michelle (David) Parker,  of Seattle, WA, daughter Lisa (David) Schmidt, of Rochester, NY, her son Zachary (Mary) Kuhn, of Millersville, MD, and her six grandchildren, Eliana and Naomi Parker, Inga and Harriet Schmidt, and Conrad and Victoria Kuhn, and her brother Paul L. Ruehrmund III, (Mary), of Williamsburg, and their family.

A memorial service will be held on June 18th, 2022 near Hershey, PA. Details will be announced at a later date.
