Shelly Xi Ennis (Xi Ge), 58, passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 10, 2022, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Shelly was born and grew up in Shanghai, China, and there received a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial/Civil Engineering from Tongji University in 1986. Shortly thereafter, she came the United States on a scholarship to attend graduate school at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, where she received a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1991. From there, she worked in the Greater Philadelphia Pennsylvania area at an engineering firm, Woodward-Clyde Consultants, in the early 1990s. It was there she met her future husband, Steven, and they were married in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, in 1992. In the mid-1990s, she made a career change to the banking industry, and it was off to the Wilmington, Delaware area, working for First USA/Bank One/JPM Chase. In 2004, her work took her and family to the Charlotte, North Carolina area, where she worked the rest of her career at Bank of America. There, she was a Senior Quantitative Finance Manager in Enterprise Risk Analytics. She also achieved Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification and membership in 2009.
Shelly could light up a room with her smile and her presence, and her friendly demeanor would always make people feel at home. Once you met her, you would not forget her. She enjoyed a good conversation and welcomed a debate on past and current events. Shelly loved to watch birds feed at her bird feeders and planting flowers to watch them grow. She was fascinated with nature, wildlife, the earth, science, history, and culture. She loved to cook or go out to restaurants, and have friends and family enjoy a big meal. She enjoyed making her homemade cupcakes. She enjoyed reading or watching Agatha Christie mysteries. Her travels for work and leisure took her all over the US. Also, there were many trips to China. Several summer vacations and holidays were spent in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, or the coastal towns of Ocean City, New Jersey and at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where she loved taking walks on the beach. Most of all, she loved her family, caring for her children, and watching them go through life. And she loved shopping! She was ‘Mums’.
She is survived by her step-mother, Congling Wei, and by her loving husband of nearly 30 years, Steven, daughter Caitriona Lin, son Sean Steven, and her faithful Shih Tzu Bella. She was predeceased by her father, Koulin Ge.
The family expresses a heartfelt thanks to Shelly’s relatives and close friends who offered kindness, comfort, and assistance during her illness and this time of grieving.
To honor Shelly’s wishes, no service of remembrance or interment will be held. Those who wish to remember her, in a special way, in lieu of flowers, may make a gift to the American Cancer Society, The National Audubon Society, or Clarkson University.
Absent from the body and present with the Lord.
