Sherwood Adams Cannon

Miss Sherwood Cannon, age 99 of Rock Hill, passed away October 30, 2009. She was born February 11, 1910 in the India Hook Community, the daughter of the late Eliza "Lida" Hunter and R.S. Cannon. She attended Winthrop College and taught first grade at Lancaster Co. and Richmond Drive Schools. Sherwood was a dedicated, life-long member of India Hook United Methodist Church. She served as youth leader, long-time Sunday school teacher, president of the women's organization, church treasurer, and church historian. Her life has inspired the lives of many. Miss Cannon was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Virginia Donahue, and her brothers Harry and Herbert. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Frances Cannon and Harriet Cannon; nephew Rev. Joe B. Cannon; nieces Alice C. McWaters, Kay C. Alford, Sally C. Butler, and dear friend Martha Donahue. The family wishes to sincerely thank Sherwood's loyal care givers: Gwendolyn Coleman, Diane Blackwell, Adrianne Helton, and Dot Cannon, as well as the staff of Westminster Towers, Hospice and Community Care. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Miss. Cannon will be held at 2:00pm at India Hook United Methodist Church with Reverend Stephen D. Gaither officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Burial will be private.
