Shirley Fulmer Smith

January 31, 1937 — June 29, 2015

YORK- Ms. Shirley Fulmer Smith, 78, of 2371 Kingsburry Road, passed away very peacefully in her son and his wife's home, on Monday. June 29, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A Native of Laurens, SC, Shirley was the daughter of the late Chester G. and Victoria Metts Fulmer and the widow of Albert "Bill" Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church Newport and the former owner of Shirley's Sewing and Alterations in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her daughter, Darlene Russell and husband, Roy; her son, Mike Smith and wife, Terry; all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Ray Johnson and Ruth Nelson and husband, Marvin, all of Laurens; her grandchildren, Shawna Strain and Michael Smith Jr., all of Texas; Crystal Lytle and husband, John, and great-grandson, Jacob Lytle; her spoiled rotten Maltese, Princess Snowball Smith, all of the home. She also has six deceased brothers and two deceased sisters.

She will always be remembered for her selflessness and generous acts of kindness and always putting others before herself. She was a very loving and caring person. She enjoyed gardening, baking, making quilts and reading her bible daily. She loved God, her family, her church and church family. She had the pleasure of getting to travel with her great grandson, Jacob, who has been the light of her life the past 5 years.

In lieu of flowers, Shirley requested for her churches to be blessed instead. Memorials should be made to First Baptist Church of Newport, 455 Hands Mill Highway, Rock Hill, SC 29732 and/or Langston Baptist Church, 1609 Cattle Drive, Laurens, SC 29360.

All services will be private and held at a later date.
