Sophia Bolden Couch

Sophia Bolden Couch, 95, formerly of 1476 Moss Creek Road, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009 at Magnolia Manor. A native of Piedmont, SC, Mrs. Couch was born July 20, 1913 a daughter of the late Alfred and Mattie Gilreath Bolden. She was a homemaker and attended Central Baptist Church in York, She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Couch, Sr., a son Jerry R. Couch and a grandson Larry Eugene Helms. Surviving are three sons; Joe Mack Couch and wife Martha of Rock Hill, Jerry C. Couch and friend Linda of Rock Hill, Tony M. Couch of Goldsboro, NC; six daughters Jane Stevenson and husband David of Carlisle, Peggy Helms and husband Larry of Rock Hill, Jean Murray of White Pine, TN, Susan Childers of York, Ina Marshburn of Rock Hill, Rhonda Griffin and husband Buddy of York; a granddaughter whom she raised Paula Oates and husband Danny of Rock Hill; twelve grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and a number of step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; two sisters Mattie Hooper and Mary Sue Criswell both of Piedmont SC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Couch will be held Monday at 1:00pm in the chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Black officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road.
