Mr. Stafford Milton Belk, Jr., 86, passed away quietly Sunday May 15, 2011, at home with Hospice Care. He had previously recovered from five strokes and a heart attack. Born in Monroe, N.C., he had been the only male still alive of nine children born to the late Stafford M. Belk, Sr. and the late Ida McManus Belk. He was also preceded in death by his wife, M. Evelyn Parris Belk (Gaffney) and a daughter, Beverly B. Sacco Gainey. Mr. Belk was a US Navy W.W.II veteran and former Golden Gloves Boxing Champion (Charlotte, N.C.) who loved dancing, singing and playing guitar. Before retiring as a successful Rock Hill businessman he was owner of Belk's Upholstery, City Construction Co. (renamed City Awning and Siding), Stafford Belk Realty, Ace Awning and Weathervent (Gaffney) and Belk's Skating Rink, which was later the original home of York Technical College. He also specialized in affordable rental housing or small business locations to lower income persons of York and Chester counties. He was an annual member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, but Lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans York Co., Chapter 46. Surviving are a sister, Agnes B. Wolfe of Monroe, N.C.; his son, Ruskin A Belk; daughter, Tamara Belk Patterson; grandchildren, Frank Sacco, III USN of Virginia Beach Va., Dallas Gainey, Christina Gainey, J. Paige Gainey and Monica E Patterson; great-grandchildren, Jaden Sacco, Charlie Sacco and Isabella Sacco of Virginia Beach, Va. and Ty Gainey-Good. Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday May 17, 2011, at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, in the Chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. Donald G. Williams, LDS, will preside and Gilbert Blue, Catawba Indian Nation, will sing. Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Cherry Rd., in the Military Section. Final Tribute will be presented by American Legion Post 34 Honor Guard.
