Stephen Doyle

Stephen Gregory Doyle 4/19/43-8/11/21 of Fort Mill, SC and formerly of West Islip, NY passed away after facing with humor and grace the challenges of lung cancer. He was 78 years old. Born in Manhattan to Raymond and Helen Doyle, Greg was the youngest of four boys who grew up in Manhasset, NY. He attended St. Mary’s in Manhasset and Eastern Military Academy in Huntington. Greg served in the US Army and earned his degree from Pace University upon his discharge. In the early seventies, he worked at JP Morgan In Manhattan. In 1977, he married his wife, Eileen, and together they made their home in West Islip. Greg spent many weekends on Long Island High School football fields officiating games in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. He was employed by Frito Lay and Drakes Cakes. In 2004, he and his wife retired to Fort Mill where they made special memories and friends who helped them tremendously through Greg’s last months. He will be most remembered as a kind and gentle soul whose heart was bigger than his “big guy” body. He enjoyed vacationing with family on Pawley’s Island, sipping Irish Mist on the rocks after a Steak Fitzgerald dinner at the Irish Coffee Pub in East Islip, watching the Giants and Notre Dame football games, and living to see the NY Rangers win the Stanley Cup in 1994. But what Greg loved most was his family. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Eileen, and their two children, Martin (Danielle) Smith and Angela (Michael) O’Hoppe. He was a beloved “Pop” to one extra special granddaughter, Melanie, and four grandsons, Logan, Jake, Tyler, and Colton. Greg was predeceased by his parents and brothers Tony and Kenneth. He deeply loved his brother, Patrick (Judy) Doyle and his nieces and nephews, Patrick, (goddaughter) Christine, Matthew, Kimberly, Sean, and Terri as well as his cousin, Maureen (Sixto).
Services will be held in New York with burial in Calverton National Cemetery.
