Stuart Theodore Mccready

January 14, 1944 — July 28, 2023

Fort Mill, SC

Stuart Theodore McCready, “Stu”, 79, of Fort Mill, SC entered into the more immediate presence of the Lord on July 28th, 2023 at home with his wife, Jane McCready by his side.

Born January 14, 1944 in Clay Center, KS to Theodore “Ted” and Pearl McCready. The son of a farmer, Stu quickly learned Midwest resourcefulness, creativity, and the value of a hard day’s work. Stu spent 8 years at Kansas State University, earning his PhD in Food Science and served four years in the Army Reserves prior to the Vietnam War during that time. He worked in Research and Development for Pizza Hut, Inc. after his time in other university settings. A serial entrepreneur alongside his wife Jane, the pair opened and operated Mexican restaurants, a print shop and multiple real estate endeavors over their 46 years of marriage, with Stu working different jobs in between to provide for his family. Stu was never too proud to drive a bus, mow a lawn, run a printing press, maintain rental properties or learn anything and everything needed to provide for those he loved.

You were likely to find Stu outdoors working on building or landscaping projects or pursuing passions like golfing or hunting. These projects inevitably led him into farming tasks, resulting in a Kansas boy planting and seeding in different parts of South Carolina, and Stu spending time using his tractor and other equipment to get the job done himself. Stu’s best days were working outside driving his tractor.

Stu rarely met a meal he didn’t like, and if he did, he’d politely let you know. Dessert was welcome anytime, and best shared with others. This knack for fellowship alongside the prayers of his parents and many others, saw him reclaim his faith in Jesus Christ in 2006 with a vigor that perfectly exemplified his relentless work ethic. As a member of Little Church on the Lane and in daily study with Jane, Stu developed a deep relationship with the Lord that brought him salvation, utilized the power of prayer, and trusted deeply in God’s word.

Stu will be remembered for his outgoing nature and funny stories, great road trip adventures, and his love for his wife, 6 children, 12 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Stu was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Pearl McCready, and children, John Nelson McCready and Frederick Shore McCready.

He will be remembered dearly by his surviving family, his wife, Jane McCready; sons, Shannon McCready and wife, Sherri of New York, NY, Joe McCready and wife, Michele, of Fort Mill, SC, and Charlie McCready and wife, Jessie of Lancaster, SC; daughter Marlo Masterson and husband Ty, of Andover, KS; grandchildren, Isaac McCready and wife, Amelia of New York, NY, Kaely Masterson of Andover, KS, Annie McCready of Boone, NC, Mendy Wiginton and husband, Patrick of Wichita, KS, Elisa Dickerson and husband, Vic of Tulsa, OK, TJ Masterson and wife, Hannah of Andover, KS, Abby Masterson of Wichita, KS, Marshal Masterson of Andover, KS, Elec McCready of New York, NY, Kenzy Masterson of Andover, KS, Jonah and Hadley McCready of Fort Mill, SC; 7 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Barbara Hardesty of Mesa, AZ, and Brenda Britt and husband, Tom of Prescott Valley, AZ, and nieces, nephews and cousins all around the country.
